Captain’s Log, Supplemental: 2-2-22

Greetings, Crew!

I read that a sequence of 2s is lucky, so I hope you're having a lucky day today! It's the only time we'll see four 2s in our lifetimes (unless you are a positronic being and I don't realize it). I feel pretty lucky to have seen the new Star Trek: Strange New Worlds poster that just hit the airwaves. Can you say "Tango"?

Have you heard about the 2022 LLAPy Awards? It's part of Virtual Trek Con 3, the third year of a virtual convention that launched in 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic. The Awards are not decided by an academy, but by the fans! All of the nominees were announced last night on The Main Viewer, and you can see them (and all of the categories) on the Virtual Trek Con Facebook page HERE. It's fun to see what people chose!

This is absolute last call for some delectable tidbits of information about you for next week's Kahoot game. I'm still pretty light on content, so email me ASAP.

That's it for now. Enjoy the chilly weather. See you around the Galaxy.

Mary

Captain’s Log, Supplemental: January 26, 2022

Greetings, Crew!

I hope everyone is doing well.

Are you enjoying Star Trek: Prodigy? We are, and it's getting better as it goes. That's true of all shows, I guess, as they find their footing. It's so much easier to go back some time later and watch an episode, once the character development has been done. I kind of like having to wait a week for each new episode, like in the old days, LOL!!

The new trailer for Picard, Season 2 has been released. If you haven't seen it, check it out HERE

It's interesting that they chose to go back to 2024. For one thing, it's very close. For another, it has a specific history in the Star Trek timeline. Remember the Sanctuary Cities and the Bell Riots? Yup, 2024. It will be interesting to see if they reference these events. I love tie-ins!

I hope you're all handing the cold. We haven't been going out unless we have to, which seems to be a good strategy. Warmer weather is coming!

See you around the Galaxy!

Mary

40th Anniversary of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

What were you doing on June 4th, 1982? I know what I was doing - sneaking off to see the afternoon show! All alone in the front row, I shared the theater with about 20 others - all a lot older and in business attire - who had obviously sneaked out as well. It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times, because we all know how it ended.

Two announcements have come out regarding this anniversary. First, Fathom Events will be showing it on the big screen between September 4th and 8th. Tickets are already on sale at over 20 theaters in our area. Maybe we should have a group outing? We saw it on the big screen for the 35th and it was great!

The second piece of news is from Playmates Toys. They have reacquired the Trek license after a 12 year hiatus, and they have plenty of new figures in the works, spanning multiple eras. Characters from TNG, The Wrath of Khan and Discovery are in the first wave, to be followed by more. There will also be a classic Enterprise and an Original Series-inspired phaser. Cool!

Captain’s Log, Supplemental: January 19, 2022

Greetings, Crew!

I'm doing the happy dance over here, and you know why? The premier date for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been announced! Yah, I know that I sound like a broken record, but I'm CRAZY EXCITED about this one. Let's just way that this year we'll have a great reason to say "May the Fifth be with you". Personal goal on this one: an in-person premiere party!

More news came out yesterday, too. Some of this is not new, but just to get it all in one place:

  • Even before it premieres, Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a second season. After the premiere, new episodes will drop weekly on Thursdays.
  • Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for a fifth season. Season four of Star Trek: Discovery returns with new episodes on Thursday, Feb. 10
  • Season two of Star Trek: Picard will premiere on Thursday, March 3. Following the premiere, new episodes will drop weekly on Thursdays. Star Trek: Picard is currently in production on a third season.
  • Star Trek: Lower Decks will return in summer 2022 with a 10-episode-long third season. Star Trek: Lower Decks has also been renewed for a 10-episode-long fourth season.
  • Season one of Star Trek: Prodigy returned on Thursday, Jan. 6 with episode six. The remaining episodes of season one’s first half will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays, with episode 10 available to stream on Thursday, Feb. 3. The additional 10-episode-long second half of season one will be available later in 2022.

Bottom line: It doesn't look like there's a break for quite some time in the new Star Trek weekly offerings (rubs hands together with an evil grin).

See you around the Galaxy!

Captain’s Log, Supplemental: January 12, 2022

Greetings, Crew!

Thanks to everyone that came to the membership meeting on Saturday. We had a big group! Special thanks go to Phill for the fantastic new activity - Star Trek Name That Tune - that we enjoyed after the meeting. What a hoot!

Hey, are you watching Star Trek: Prodigy? If not, you should try it. It looks gorgeous, and - no spoilers - the new episode is right down my alley!

That's all I've got for today, so check out the articles below. Have a great day, and see you around the Galaxy!

2022 Valentine Dinner

The 14th Annual Valentine Dinner will be on the evening of February 26th. Chefs Emma, Shannon, Harrison and Ben will flabbergast you with fabulous fare while you gab with the guests. The cost is still $35 after all these years, and any profit will be donated to charity. The four-course evening will start with a signature cocktail, provided by hosts Mary and Jack. You are welcome to bring wine or other alcoholic beverages to enjoy and/or share.

This event is, as always, limited. At this time the expected guest count is 12. Please use the sign-up list or email Mary to sign up. If we exceed 12 sign-ups, we will once again hold a drawing. Sign-ups will be accepted until the February meeting.

Wayne McCloud Funeral

A large number of USS Nokomis members have worked with and known Wayne over many years in convention and fan life, so we are sharing this news with the group. He passed away recently and his funeral is on Saturday, January 15th. You can find details HERE

Tig Notaro Comedy Show

Well, that was a short conversation. We discussed at our meeting on Saturday how fun it would be to see Tig Notaro (prolific comedian, actor, and Star Trek: Discovery's Commander "Jett" Reno) in March when she comes to Minneapolis. We promised to look in to a group outing. However, as of this morning it is SOLD OUT! We'll keep an eye out for additional dates.

Captain’s Log: January 2022

Happy New Year, Crew!

Welcome to '22. We've got lots of updates to share regarding the upcoming few months, so I hope to see you at the General Membership Meeting on Saturday. The meeting will be virtual and the link is posted below.

After the meeting, we're doing something new and different. We'll be playing Name That Tune with music from Star Trek, and given all of the theme songs, fight music, love themes and character-specific tunes it should be a great test of your listening skills. Tune in to play.

This is super important: we're going to have another Kahoot game after the February meeting and I need more tidbits about everybody! Please email me some fun facts (e.g. favorite color, food you hate, jobs you've had, places you've been, things you have done). It will be a better game with more fun questions.

We're looking forward to spending time with everybody this year, both in-person and virtually. See you around the galaxy!
