St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Donation Made!

Thanks to you, we have been able to donate to this worthy cause! St Jude's mission statement is as follows: "The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay." For more information on the work they do, click HERE

This year's Chuckwagon 50-50 Raffle sales generated $440, so one lucky winner got half of the pot. Congratulations to Reed B, a co-worker of Pam's, on winning the jackpot. It also allowed us to make a $220 donation to this important charity. Thank again to everyone that participated.

Holiday Party Time – Buy Your Tickets Now!

And here's the breaking news - this December we are going where no USS Nokomis holiday event has gone before!

We'll be attending Betty Danger's new drag brunch as a group on December 12th. It's called "Felicia's Navidad - Making the Yuletide Gay" and it looks like a hoot. In case you are not familiar with it, Betty Danger's is the Northeast Minneapolis restaurant with the big ferris wheel on property (there's only one in town). They are featuring an exclusive menu of holiday food and drinks, along with some favorites from the regular menu, during the show.

Everyone will be buying their own tickets online and the link is HERE. The cost is $15 plus a handling fee. Make sure you are selecting the 1pm show and not the earlier one! Do it quick, because this looks pretty popular. Once you do, please drop me an email () to make sure I know to include you in the large table. They hope to seat all of us together.

What the heck, let's try something new and different this year!! Check out the menu and details at www.bettydangers.com

Captain’s Log, Supplemental: November 3, 2021

Greetings, crew!

Wow, it got cold quick! One day we were basking in the sun and 80 degrees, and the next day we were shivering in the cloudy chilliness. OK, maybe that's just me.

Did you all enjoy Star Trek: Prodigy? We had a nice group at the virtual watch party last week. We hung out to discuss the show and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. I particularly like it when they bring back concepts from The Original Series, so I was quite pleased to see a Medusan appear. Haven't seen one of those for quite a long time! Reviews have been mixed at this point. Star Trek fans (those that don't automatically hate anything that wasn't made before 1970) tend to like it, while other critics are slamming the franchise for trying to reel in the younger audience. I'm going to keep an open mind for a while. After all, if I'd stopped watching The Next Generation after the first season's foibles (Dr Crusher crying a lot? Worf growling all the time? Code of Honor - just no.), I never would have seen the good stuff!

Speaking of virtual meetings, we'll be deciding at the Governing Board Meeting on Friday on our format for the November meeting on the 13th. Stay tuned to next week's newsletter for the outcome (and Zoom link if appropriate). We will definitely be having our Board meeting virtually. Just a reminder: all members are welcome to attend the board meetings and you can contact a board member if you want to come.

That's it for now. Take care and see you around the Galaxy!

What’s on YOUR Wish List?

The holidays are approaching and it's time to think about this. Yah, nobody knows what happened to Summer - or 2021 for that matter - but still...

Here are some suggestions from startrek.com. If you didn't get your tree topper and storyteller characters last year, you can pick them up this year (and they've added Chekov and Spock).

The ugly sweater (OK, they call them Holiday Sweaters and Sweatshirts) collection is pretty cute - especially Merry Trekmas!

And if you crave a cocktail or other concoction from a TOS glass, look no further!

Check out the whole collection HERE

Captain’s Log, Supplemental: October 27, 2021

Greetings, Crew!

The big news of the week, of course, is the premier of the new series! Star Trek: Prodigy kicks off its 10-episode first season tomorrow. We'll be having a premier party via Zoom starting at 6:30, with the show playing at 7:00 p.m. That gives everybody time to grab your beverage and dinner and settle in and relax before the show. Come on, I know you want to meet Holographic Janeway!

I'm sure we'll hang out afterwards for some sharing of impressions, because we always have them! The Zoom link is below, and you can check out the official trailer HERE

I hope everyone has a great Halloween. It will be eerier and more weird than usual for us, because we won't be home to give out candy! I love to be the neighborhood witch (although in truth, I don't need Halloween for that) and stand in the doorway stirring my flaming cauldron and cackling. Yes, you can just picture it, can't you? Well, picture us at the Vikings game in purple and gold pirate costumes, and now you've got the 2021 version. Maybe we'll leave a bucket of treats on the driveway?

Have a great week! See you around the Galaxy!

Star Trek History Channel Documentary

A new documentary is coming this fall. It's called The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek and it looks like a must-watch.

Directed by Brian Volk-Weiss, The Center Seat will be narrated by Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Gates McFadden. The series will include interviews with several Star Trek actors and production staff, including Kate Mulgrew, Walter Koenig, Robert Beltran, Robert Picardo, Brent Spiner, Nana Visitor, Roxann Dawson, Anthony Montgomery, Dominic Keating, Cirroc Lofton, Penny Johnson Jerald, Harold Livingston, Ronald D. Moore, David Gerrold, Kirstie Alley, Denise Crosby, Wil Wheaton, Nicholas Meyer, Brannon Braga, Robert Sallin, and F. Murray Abraham.

Greetings, Crew!

I hope everyone is doing well. Here are a few key happenings for you.

Just 8 more days until the series premier of Star Trek: Prodigy! We are working on details for a group viewing. It will either be in person or on Zoom (that was profound, wasn't it?). Keep your eyes on the website to find out the outcome. We'll post it as soon as possible. We're hoping for Town Hall Brewery's back room with some nicely distance tables, but time will tell...

I hope everybody has checked out the William Shatner space flight by now. It was pretty fun to watch! I had the opportunity to talk about it on the Channel 5 news. The news crew came to my house to discuss the impact of the launch. I spent quite a bit of time talking about our club and how great a group you all are, but that didn't make the cut!! They were particularly interested in William Shatner collectables, of course. If you missed it, the link is HERE

Another thing to watch the website for this week is our holiday event plans. We've been working to find a group activity and have narrowed it down to a few. For example, the GLOW Festival at the State Fairgrounds is running again this year. We could go as a group and then go to dinner. Other options are also available. We'll post ASAP with the final decision. Keep your eyes open in case we all have to reserve tickets!

Finally, the Star Trek Hallmark ornaments are all available as of last Saturday! They released the storyteller Spock a while ago and now they've added the Chekov and La Sirena. The characters both interact with the Starship Enterprise Musical Tree Topper, Kirk, Sulu and Uhura from last year. I can't wait to see the whole production when they're linked together!

Take care, and see you around the Galaxy!

Greetings, Crew!

Thanks to everybody that joined us for last Saturday's general membership meeting. It was fun to see lots of faces, as usual!

In case you missed it, here are the awards that were presented to some very ENTERPRISE-ing members (see what I did there?):

  • Blood Drives Babes Award to Roxanne, Dawn and Jane for their efforts in recruiting and welcoming blood donors to our MarsCon 2021 drive. A special shout-out was also given to Joann, Bob, Pam, Jim, Lynne and Phill for coming by to give blood and/or moral support to the day.
  • FarPoint Station Award to Brinn for "traveling" the farthest to attend meetings during the last year. She has tuned in from Oregon!
  • Littlest Ensign Award to Dexter Blair for joining the crew and the universe. We welcome him aboard and wish him peace and long life.
  • Queen of Pop Tops Award to Margie for many years of collecting pop tops for our monthly collection for charity.
  • Noxious Brew Award to Emma and Ben for that substance they entered in the beer tasting contest that generated many yucks.
  • Master of the Hunt award to Phill for creating and hosting virtual scavenger hunts and going boldly to collect the beers for the tasting.
  • Keep on Trekkin' award to the whole crew for your ingenuity and participation over the last year and a half. We've done some pretty fun stuff!

Be on the lookout for our plans for the Star Trek: Prodigy series premier on October 28th. We would like to do something in person, and we're planning just what that will look like.

Take care and see you around the Galaxy!

Captain’s Log, Supplemental: October 6, 2021

Greetings, Crew!

I hope everyone is having a good October so far, and enjoying the cooler weather. So many of us love Halloween time, the Renaissance Festival, dressing up, football season (and yes, pumpkin spice!), so fall is always a great time.

Last week I wrote about the William Shatner In Space rumor, and this week it is official! Of course you knew that, if you've accessed any media in the last few days. He's been on Today, CNN, the New York Times, our StarTribune, and just about every other outlet. He'll be the oldest person ever in space - how cool is that? "They called me," Shatner said. "I’m going to see the vastness of space and the extraordinary miracle of our Earth and how fragile it is compared to the forces at work in the universe — that’s really what I’m looking for." He'll launch from West Texas next Tuesday! Click HERE for the story from NBC News.

This Saturday is our October General Membership Meeting. It will be held by Zoom and the link is below. We have news to share about several upcoming events in the next few months, and we'll have our annual awards and recognition ceremony.

Don't forget that dues are due in September, so this Saturday is your target date if you haven't yet sent yours in.

See you around the Galaxy!
