40th Anniversary Plans

2024 is our 40th anniversary - can you believe it!!?? We have two primary events in mind: our June anniversary picnic and a special dinner event. We're also discussing t-shirts and other memorabilia. Who knows, they could really be worth something someday! We have a small committee working on plans, and everyone is welcome to join. Please let me know if you'd like to participate. I will wait until after the January 13th meeting to schedule a committee meeting so everyone can be included.

Captain’s Log, December 2023

Greetings, Crew!

We don't have a meeting in December, but we have a few chances to get together. First, there's our holiday outing on December 10th (details in this newsletter). Also, there's TC Trek Trivia on December 13th (check out TC Trek Trivia on Facebook or ask me for details).

There's another fun option to Trek yourself during December. Mounds Theater in St. Paul is presenting the Star Trek fan favorite, "It's An Honorable Life". According to (and paraphrasing) the website, “It’s an Honorable Life” follows Bailey, a Klingon cursed with a curious inability to die an honorable death and reach Stovokor; his spouse Mary, who is both supportive and challenging in equal measures; and the mysterious Q, a seemingly antagonistic, omnipotent god who just loves a project. Q serves as Bailey’s guide through his life, playing out hypotheticals at varied stages of his warrior past, exploring all the possible outcomes of his never-to-be hero’s death. This production is dear to our hearts, as some of our fandom friends have been involved in the writing, production, and acting. There are eight remaining performances, so check it out HERE.

Coming up in January: our outing to Feed My Starving Children on January 23rd at 7pm in Coon Rapids. After the 1.5 hour packing session we'll go to dinner at a nearby restaurant. We still have 8 open spots, so please go to www.fmsc.org to join the group.

It's almost time to sign up to donate blood at our MarsCon Blood Drive on Saturday, March 9th. Signups will be available very soon, so mark your calendar. We also invite you to donate blood at the Village Blood Drive in St. Anthony Village on January 5th between 9am and 3pm. Several of our members are involved in this drive, and if you donate you'll still be eligible at MarsCon!! Sign up HERE.

Speaking of MarsCon, we are planning to have a party room this year and we need hands! Please let me know if you can help. Last year's was so fun that we are hoping for the same thing again this year!

See you around the Galaxy, and have a wonderful holiday season!

Mary

Captain’s Log: November 2023

Greetings,

Happy Fall to all of you! I'd say Happy Winter, but it's too soon and hopefully this snow will melt (although our yard is covered).

We hope to see you at the November 11th General Membership Meeting. Pam and Jim have generously offered to host us (because libraries are closed on Veterans' Day), so we'll meet in comfort! The address is 4808 River Wood Circle in Savage and we'll start at noon. If you aren't able to make it, join us by Zoom (link is below). Of course, Zooming doesn't get you to the Bake Sale, and goodies are yummy! After the meeting we'll embark on Scott's fun brewery tour and find some great food and beverages.

Speaking of meetings, here's what you need to know for the next few months. As usual, we will not have a General Membership Meeting in December. We'll have our holiday outing (see below) and we'll publish a newsletter to keep you up to date. On January 13th, our meeting will be at the Wescott Library in Eagan (strategically placed because we're working on a fun after-meeting activity in that area). February's meeting is on the normal second Saturday (the 10th), but the March meeting will be moved to the 3rd Saturday (the 16th) due to MarsCon.

Speaking of MarsCon, our American Red Cross blood drive is planned for March 9th. We need a few hands to volunteer at the greeter table, and of course we need lots of donors. We'll publish the signup link in an upcoming newsletter. Also, we're hoping to have another fun party room (see the article below).

That's about it for now. See you around the Galaxy!

Mary

40th Anniversary Plans

We are planning several events for our big anniversary year and we'd love your help. Our first committee meeting is on Monday, November 6th at 7:30pm, and we're planning the big celebration party. We'll meet by Zoom, so you can join us from home. Let Mary know if you'd like the Zoom link.

MarsCon 2024 – Let’s Have Another Fun Party Room!

Last year's party room was a ball. We recreated our Piece of the Action room and everybody had a great time. Best of all, we kept the work to a minimum and maxed out the fun!

This year we'd like to do it again with the same formula. We hope to do a room based on the episode Assignment: Earth, also known as the Gary Seven episode. Because the costumes are 1960s-era, it will be easy to dress in style. The decor should also be simple and quick (unless someone wants to build a Beta Five computer, of course).

Last year we had over 15 people participate in one way or another and it would be great to have similar interest. Please let Mary know if you can help with quick load/unload on Friday afternoon and Sunday morning, and if you'd like to help populate the room on Friday and Saturday nights. Bottom line: if we have enough hands, we'll have a room, so we hope you'll help!

Captain’s Log: October 2023

Greetings, Crew!

It's October, and time for all of those fun October-y events. Haunted houses, bonfires, the Star Trek Bar Crawl on the 28th, TC Trek Trivia on October on the 11th, carving your Spocky pumpkins, and of course, Pumpkin Spice Raktajino! Enjoy it while you can, and bring honor to your House!

We are gearing up for the 40th Anniversary next year. We have plans for several fun events through the year. We'd like to throw a bash - like we did for Trek 50 and our 35th Anniversary - where we can relax, enjoy each others' company, have a great meal, and celebrate 40 years. How many clubs can say that, really!? We also plan to have a 40th Anniversary memento for all, whether you've been a member for 1 or 40 years. We have a very small committee at this time, so drop me a line if you'd like to help with the planning. We'll be meeting in November as a committee.

Other important notes about dates:

  • We would love to see everyone at the Chuckwagon, and we need to know by 5pm tomorrow (Sunday) if you are coming for food planning purposes
  • Speaking of Chuckwagon, even if you can't attend you can get 50/50 Raffle tickets. The charity funds this year go to Ukraine Relief. You can print out the file in an earlier website post or just collect the money and we'll through the names in the hat (if doesn't impact the chances of winning if you don't have a ticket in hand). Tickets are $5 for one, $10 for 3, so everyone can get some. Let me, Roxanne or Pam know if you'd like to buy (or comment on our Facebook page)
  • We're planning to pack food for Feed My Starving Children in January
  • Our holiday event, which usually falls on the 2nd Saturday in January, is under consideration. If you have ideas for an outing or dinner location, let a Board member know

Lots of fun stuff coming and we hope to see you around the Galaxy!

Mary

Big News for November!

Our normal meeting date for November happens to fall on Veterans Day this year, so public libraries aren't open. No matter - we're making fun plans! The membership meeting will be at Klines' home in Savage.

After the meeting we'll have our annual Bake Sale. Bring your best homemade items, or stop at the bakery and grab some treats. Mark your items with a suggested price (even dollar amounts only) and we can sample each other's goodies. These will come in handy for the next part of the day....

Scott is working his magic to find a brewery tour in the Burnsville/Savage area. After we load up on goodies, we'll head out for fun. There will be food stops and drink stops - he always makes it a fun day. Join us on before you head home for the day.

It will be a great time. We'll share more details at the October/November meetings and in the next newsletter.

Star Trek Bar Crawl

This year's bar crawl is called Trek or Treat: A Spooktacular Star Trek Bar Crawl. It starts at the 331 Club on 13th Avenue NE in Minneapolis. A Fistful of Datas, the 90s cover band with a Star Trek episode name, will play at 10pm. These crawls are always fun, so we hope to see you there!

October General Membership Meeting Zoom Link

Join us for the October meeting at noon on Saturday the 13th. The meeting's at the St Anthony Village Library at 2941 Pentagon Drive, St Anthony, MN 55418. We'll be watching the eclipse at 11am, then starting the Zoom (for those that can't join in person) before noon.

Log on a few minutes early to check your tech.
