Greetings, Crew!
It's been a tough week for us. We've lost one of our long-time crew members and friends - Jane. In her 29 years with our club, Jane participated in many activities, fundraisers and events. She also served as First Officer for a long run, ending in June 2022. She was one of those members that attended almost every function and volunteered to work at most of them. She was also our dear friend. She will be hugely missed.
We are planning to honor Jane with a memorial get-together. The tentative date is October 8th (after our club meeting). We will be inviting friends and colleagues from Jane's life. We'll also be letting people know at CONvergence next week during the blood drive and collecting names of those that want to be informed of our plans. We are calling the drive the Dr. Jane Dusek Memorial Blood Drive, in honor of the many years she single-handedly did our recruitment calling for more than 30 blood drives. More information will be posted as we learn the details.
On top of that, the news came of Nichelle Nichols' passing. She was an inspiration to so many of us. It's interesting to realize how she impacted my worldview that a woman can obviously become a scientist and leader - the generation before us didn't think that way. Channel 9 reached out for an interview, and I'm super excited to say that one of our friends was featured in the story and did a beautiful job sharing his tribute! Check out this LINK to see!
