Captain’s Log, Supplemental: November 17, 2021

Greetings, Crew!

We had a great meeting on Saturday, during which we reviewed lots of upcoming events. These are all listed on the website for you to check any time, and here's an overview.

Tomorrow night is the virtual watch party for the 4th season of Star Trek: Discovery. See the link below and join us for the show and a visit.

The next one coming up is our 2021 holiday event on Sunday, December 12th. If you haven't done so already, go to bettydangers.com to check out the details and grab your tickets to Felicia's Navidad Drag Brunch. At this point I am aware of about 15 people that already have tickets. Once you order yours, drop me a line to let me know and I'll add you to the big party.

We won't be having a General Membership Meeting in December, as usual. Therefore, we reviewed all of the upcoming dates through February, as follows:

  • December 3 - Governing Board Meeting for December
  • January 2 - Governing Board Meeting for January
  • January 8 - General Membership Meeting and Star Trek Name That Tune
  • January 22 - Science Museum of Minnesota Outing (TBD)
  • January 25 - Feed My Starving Children at the Coon Rapids facility (TBD)
  • January 30 - Top Golf outing (TBD)
  • February 4 - Governing Board Meeting for February
  • February 12 - General Membership Meeting and USS Nokomis Kahoot Game
  • February 25 - Twin Cities Regional Science Fair
  • February 26 - 2022 Valentine Dinner

Any item that had TBD has not been cemented. Keep you eyes on the website and we'll have final details at the January meeting.

That's lots of fun stuff coming up. Until then, see you around the Galaxy!

Star Trek Magazine and Giveaway

The official Star Trek magazine is back. Here's an excerpt from treknews.net:

"With three shows warping through our airwaves, a fourth show, and a movie in the works, we are truly living in the new golden age of Trek. To celebrate this era the relaunched Star Trek magazine, now renamed Star Trek Explorer, returns on November 16th with interviews, articles, fiction, puzzles and more!"

You can also win an exclusive prize pack, including a one-year subscription to Star Trek Explorer, the Star Trek Villains book, and a Star Trek t-shirt. Go to the website HERE for details.

What’s That About Another Kahoot?

A few months ago we played a Kahoot game after a membership meeting. It was a blast! We're going to do it again in February, so I need more material. Please drop me an email to give me some fascinating facts about yourself. Really, they don't need to be so fascinating. Here are some examples:

  • Person X's favorite colors are green and purple
  • Person Y has worked as a firefighter, an EMT, and a hazmat responder
  • Person Z hates cinnamon
  • Person W has broken more than 30 bones

Boy, I bet you can't guess who those people are! Give me your loves, your hates, your past occupation list, the place you want to travel to, or anything else. The more we get, the more fun the game. Email me today at

Captain’s Log, November 2021

Greetings and Happy November!

Are you enjoying Pumpkin Spice Season? I'm not a fan, but I get it intellectually, just like I get bacon! I am a fan of turkey, which I'm looking forward to with great anticipation. The real stuff, not turkey-shaped meatloaf. See what I did there?

Let's start with the most important thing you need to know. At our monthly board meeting, the Governing Board decided to keep the virtual meeting format for November. That means two things. First, you will need the Zoom link (below) to join us. Second, we will not be having a bake sale because a virtual bake sale is very unsatisfying! We'll find another time to do the bake sale when we are together again in person.

In other news, we learned yesterday that Star Trek: Prodigy has been renewed for a second season. We have enjoyed the first two episodes. It's not at all like the other two animated series. The visuals, in particular, are fantastic. If you haven't watched it yet, give it a try.

More details follow below. See you at the meeting and see you around the Galaxy!

St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Donation Made!

Thanks to you, we have been able to donate to this worthy cause! St Jude's mission statement is as follows: "The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay." For more information on the work they do, click HERE

This year's Chuckwagon 50-50 Raffle sales generated $440, so one lucky winner got half of the pot. Congratulations to Reed B, a co-worker of Pam's, on winning the jackpot. It also allowed us to make a $220 donation to this important charity. Thank again to everyone that participated.

Holiday Party Time – Buy Your Tickets Now!

And here's the breaking news - this December we are going where no USS Nokomis holiday event has gone before!

We'll be attending Betty Danger's new drag brunch as a group on December 12th. It's called "Felicia's Navidad - Making the Yuletide Gay" and it looks like a hoot. In case you are not familiar with it, Betty Danger's is the Northeast Minneapolis restaurant with the big ferris wheel on property (there's only one in town). They are featuring an exclusive menu of holiday food and drinks, along with some favorites from the regular menu, during the show.

Everyone will be buying their own tickets online and the link is HERE. The cost is $15 plus a handling fee. Make sure you are selecting the 1pm show and not the earlier one! Do it quick, because this looks pretty popular. Once you do, please drop me an email () to make sure I know to include you in the large table. They hope to seat all of us together.

What the heck, let's try something new and different this year!! Check out the menu and details at www.bettydangers.com
