According to an article on inverse.com, we may see the premier of the new animated Star Trek series in 2020. The series did not stop production during the COVID-19 shutdown, as the animated format is uniquely suited to virtual recording. This is not new for Star Trek, as most of the episodes of The Animated Series were recorded remotely in the '70s.
The new series follows the adventures of junior officers on the starship USS Cerritos. Showrunner Mike McMahan told inverse that although the show is billed as a comedy, it will nonetheless tackle "real science fiction stories." Long-time science fiction fans may recognize the cast members, including Tawny Newsome, Jerry O'Connell and Jack Quaid. The series sounds fun and interesting, and hopefully we can all get together in the future to watch it!
