MarsCon 2023

Thanks to everyone that participated in our activities at MarsCon this year. Fifteen members helped with hauling, setting up, greeting our guests, staffing the blood drive, donating blood, and more! Our Piece of the Action room was very popular with visitors that played cards, visited, and enjoyed Red and Green.

We had a great time and met some new friends. We also saw hundreds of old friends that we hadn't seen in a few years. As somebody put it, it was like a family reunion! Great job, everybody!

Greetings, Crew!

Just a quick note this week - getting ready for MarsCon! We hope to see you there. You can do us, and the blood supply a big favor if you will pass on the blood drive details to friends and family. You don't have to be a con-goer to give - it's open to the public. The drive is from 10am to 4pm at the Airport Hilton (3800 East American Boulevard in Bloomington), and we still need about 15 donors! Your support is much appreciated.

See you around the Galaxy, Pally!

Captain’s Log, Supplemental: March 1, 2023

Greetings, Crew!

Here we are in March, with fun on the way. This weekend is the Twin Cities Regional Science Fair. Several of us will be judging and supporting the Fair to make it a great experience for the middle and high school students. I can't wait to see the creative things they come up with; there are always some surprises.

Next weekend we'll be at MarsCon, thanks to a great group of members that have volunteered to help. Our return to party room hosting is sure to be a good time with all of the creative minds going strong. Don't forget to go to redcrossblood.org and make your appointment for blood donation on Saturday. We are very short of appointments right now, so please spread the word!

On March 18th we have our March meeting at noon at the Edina Library (5280 Grandview Square). That evening will be the 2023 St. Patrick's Day party and Beer Tasting Contest (information below).

Here's hoping you can join us at these fun events. See you around the Galaxy!

St. Patrick’s and Beer Tasting Party

On March 18th, after the monthly meeting (yes, this is a date change, so don't forget), we will have a St. Patrick's Day get-together and beer tasting party at the Captain's Quarters in St. Anthony. All are welcome - we'd love to see you!

You're invited to bring any beverage to enter in the contest (a four- or six-pack will do). Over the years we've had lots of non-beer entrants, including homemade soda, kombucha, wine, etc. Also, bring anything else you'd like to drink and food to share with the group. The party will start at 5pm and we will begin the beer tasting at 5:30pm (along with the potluck dinner).

For those that will be participating in the tasting, the rules remain unchanged. The blind tasting will take place in rounds, and we will narrow the entrants down until we get to the big winner. There will be fabulous prizes for the first and second place beers, and the beer with the smallest number of votes will take the Bad Beer Board for the year.

It's also the day after St. Patrick's Day, so feel free to flash your green side!

2023 Valentine Dinner

We had a fantastic evening at the dinner on the 25th. The menu was wonderful, with a focus on South American and Mesoamerican dishes. Chefs Emma, Shannon, Harrison and Ben worked for many hours to prepare and serve us. Many thanks to them (and to Roxanne, who helped a lot!) for the lovely evening of visiting and being pampered.

Greetings, Crew!

We have some fun events coming up, so get ready.

Don't forget about the blood drive at MarsCon. We only have 8 donors at this time, and we need 30, so spread the word and sign yourself up if you're able. Click HERE for the link to pick your appointment. We also have our party room planning in the works. Come to the meeting tomorrow (link below). You don't even need to go out in the snow. Then join us at con for some fun.

Twin Cities Regional Science Fair is coming up on the 3rd of March. If you're interested in joining us to judge projects and meet lots of bright young people, click HERE.

I hope you're keeping an eye out for your entry to the St. Patrick's Day Beer Tasting contest. Even if you're not bringing a beverage for the competition, plan to join us on March 18th for a fun potluck dinner, visiting and relaxing. It's a chance to break out those green clothes that you never get a chance to wear, too.

OK, back to shoveling. See you around the Galaxy!

C.A.T. Show Coming Up

Get ready to show off your C.A.T. after the April membership meeting. That's Art, Craft, or Talent, not a furry feline friend! There's lots of time to finish up the needlework, write your best poetry, get the last touches on that costume, or practice singing in front of the bathroom mirror. Anything you'd like to share will be welcome, so plan ahead now. More details will be shared in the upcoming weeks.

Picard Premier

We had a good time at the Twin Cities 400 Tavern on February 16th. The food was great and the 3rd season premier of Picard was, too. Congratulations to Scott L, who won first place at Picard Trivia. Thanks to everyone for a great time!

Captain’s Log, Supplemental: February 15, 2023

Greetings, Crew!

Don't forget that tomorrow evening is the premier of Picard Season 3. We'll gather at 6:30 at the Twin Cities 400 Tavern and the show starts at 7:30pm. Please add your name to the signup sheet on the website or let me know you're coming so we know to expect you.

Our annual St. Patrick's Day party and beer tasting contest is March 18th. Keep your eyes open for a tasty beverage to bring. It doesn't strictly have to be beer; many interesting entrants have emerged over the years, including non-alcoholic, sour, and downright disgusting brews. Those last may have been on purpose, the better to win the Bad Beer Board! There will be fabulous prizes and a potluck dinner. Stay tuned for more details.

See you around the Galaxy!
