Please join us for our 2019 outdoor movie night on August 17th. The fun starts at 7pm in the backyard of the Captain's Quarters. Everyone is welcome to Trek under the stars!
The cost of the event is still $12 and includes your meal and entertainment. Please bring a beverage of your choice and something to sit on (most people bring chairs but blankets work, too). Please sign up online ASAP or let Mary know if you plan to attend so we can plan the amount of food. We need to know who's coming by August 11th. It is critically important for everyone to RSVP.
The only other thing you need to know is that there is Star Trek on the menu. Please join us for the fun, rain or shine!
Join Us To Celebrate One of Humanity’s Greatest Endeavors
Fifty years ago, humankind took a giant leap, setting foot on an extraterrestrial body for the first time. Join us in celebrating the anniversary of that achievement at the Moon Party, hosted by Phill Goldman & Lynne Tauer at their home in the northern suburbs. The proceeds of this club fund-raiser, in place of this year’s Garden Party, benefit the club’s general fund.
The anniversary, July 20th, falls on a Saturday this year. We'll start at 6:00PM and go until "whenever."
Weather permitting, we will have The Tauer Family’s killer telescope and a spotting scope set up in the back yard for viewing the moon and heavens beyond. On the big screen in the house we will show “The Right Stuff,” “From The Earth To The Moon,” and/or other productions about the space program’s ambitious undertakings to break barriers to the Apollo 11 moon landing. There may be more – we’re working on it. You will have to come and find out.
We will provide the core meal (picnic fare) that may include moon-themed novelties. You are invited to bring your favorite side dish for potluck-style sharing, but that is completely optional. (Moon-themed creations get brownie points!)
Please bring a lawn chair and, because it’s a summer evening in Minnesota, don't forget your preferred bug spray.
Registration (sign up online) and payment ($11 per person) are due by Saturday, July 13. No exceptions. This event is exclusive to Nokomis members and plus-ones only. Payment is available in person (see Lynne at the Nokomis picnic), U.S. Mail, or PayPal at the button below. Questions? Contact Lynne at
Had a good St Patrick's day? Yeah, the snow didn't help - doggone it we had to move it from March to April
The 16th annual beer tasting and competition will take place on April 13th after our membership meeting, and it's time to get prepared. You do not have to compete in the tasting to attend, of course, and can simply enjoy the fun. However, if you are competing, start thinking about your entry now! If you wish to enter the tasting, you should bring 4-6 bottles of your entry. All types of beer, hard cider, malt beverage, near beer, maltini, non-alcoholic beer or malternative are welcome. You can even enter a soda if you'd like to, as you never know what will win. Keep in mind that the Bad Beer Board is also up for grabs.
The party is moving back to its roots this year. Before we had Barn Tasting and Beer Dancing, and before we had hotels and hot tubs, we were at my home in St Anthony. We'll be back there this year. Final details will be in the March newsletter.
Yes, it's true. We are excited to do something truly different after our meeting in February. We'll be at Bad Axe Throwing at 2505 Kennedy Street NE, Suite A, Minneapolis from 5:30 to 8:00pm. Check it out at www.badaxethrowing.com. It really looks like bowling, but with axes!
Axe throwing costs $39.25 per person. You can pay on site by credit card only. If you can't throw, you can come with your throwing friend or partner to watch. Everyone should plan to bring food and beverage, as we are having a pot luck. Please sign up for throwing on the signup sheet on the website so we know how many are coming. Also,
A few rules: no alcohol is allowed, although we will likely go out afterwards at a nearby Pub, and you must wear closed-toed shoes if you are throwing. We'll touch base at the meeting on Saturday, and then head over later.
