Website User List Pared Down

The user list for this website has been pared down to those whose dues were paid.  It's the first completely comprehensive cleanup in three years.  The work is complete as of 2 Nov 2019.

For those of us that paid our dues, please log in to the website at least once before the end of calendar 2019, to be sure you are still a registered user and that Phill didn't make a mistake.  If you did pay your dues and are having difficulty, don't hesitate to contact Phill () and get it straightened out.

If your username doesn't work and you know in your heart that you didn't pay this year's dues, you can contact Pam () and pay your dues, or use the Join Us link to use online payments.

And if you hear of someone who didn't get their newsletter, please refer them to this article on the website.

Thanks for your help!

Apollo 11 Moon Party is Set – See you on the 20th

Thanks for Signing up to Celebrate One of Humanity’s Greatest Endeavors

Fifty years ago, humankind took a giant leap, setting foot on an extraterrestrial body for the first time. Join us in celebrating the anniversary of that achievement at the Moon Party, hosted by Phill Goldman & Lynne Tauer at their home in the northern suburbs. The proceeds of this club fund-raiser, in place of this year’s Garden Party, benefit the club’s general fund.

The anniversary, July 20th, falls on a Saturday this year.  We'll start at 6:00PM and go until "whenever."

Weather permitting, we will have The Tauer Family’s killer telescope and a spotting scope set up in the back yard for viewing the moon and heavens beyond. On the big screen in the house we will show “The Right Stuff,” “From The Earth To The Moon,” and/or other productions about the space program’s ambitious undertakings to break barriers to the Apollo 11 moon landing. There may be more – we’re working on it. You will have to come and find out.

We will provide the core meal (picnic fare) that may include moon-themed novelties. You are invited to bring your favorite side dish for potluck-style sharing, but that is completely optional. (Moon-themed creations get brownie points!)

Please bring a lawn chair and, because it’s a summer evening in Minnesota, don't forget your preferred bug spray.

Registration was open through the end of Saturday, July 13. and is now closed.  For other questions? Contact Lynne at

See you at the Party!

Save the Date – TCRSF 2020 is on…

.. the same weekend as MarsCon,  February 28-29.   But it IS a leap year, so care to spend the bonus day on the Future?

Lynne and Phill will definitely be working on the event, from setup Friday AM through takedown Saturday afternoon.   Join us if you can.   We can post more specifics as the date gets closer.

Our 35th Anniversary Picnic is on June 8th

This year’s anniversary picnic will be held West Bush Lake Park in Bloomington. You may remember this as the site of the last year's rainy picnic and the 2016 All-Ships Picnic, a nice grove tucked in the trees.   The picnic area has close and easy access to Horseshoe Courts, Sand Volleyball, Fishing docs on the lake, and playground for the younglings.   Even more importantly, the site has drinking fountains and a permanent restroom right there.  The street address is 9401 W. Bush Lake Rd, Bloomington MN. Be sure to punch in Shelter 1 for your GPS - we're at the north entrance, then up the hill.

We'll have a quick monthly meeting, then on to the picnicking!

We have plenty of room, so invite anyone from the fan community or families that you meet.  The anniversary picnic will again be a potluck, so please bring something to grill and something to share. It will also be a BYOB event. We’ll be providing plates, napkins, cups, and utensils (of the paper and plastic variety).

Look elsewhere in the newsletter for the return of the Time Warp Peep Toss!

Also, feel free to bring along your toys as long as you don’t mind them getting lost in the weeds or the lake.

Dance Tickets are Closed – the Dance is Next Week!!

I know you've all been waiting to get the info for the USS Nokomis' formal dinner dance on Saturday, January 19.  We will once again be at the Dan Patch American Legion, 12375 Princeton Ave., Savage, MN.  Because of the great turn outs and hard work from all our members at our annual auctions, the Nokomis will be supporting more of the costs this time.  Instead of $35, the 2019 Dance will be $25 per person.  This is a big "Thank You!" for all the effort put forth and donations received to make our fundraisers a success.

If you signed up on the paper sign-up sheet at any of the Nokomis General Membership meetings, you should find your name already placed on this sheet.

The payment was due by January 12th, at the Monthly Meeting. We're making final commitments to the restaurant early this weekend.  Because of that we're not accepting any walk-ins or late registrations.

Hats and Mittens – Please Help This Season

Nokomis friends,

The annual Hats and Mittens Winter Ball fundraiser is on December 30. It was started by a board member and friend of Mark's from the National Lutheran Choir when she noticed kids at the bus stop without hats or mittens. We attend the gala where one on the entrance requirements is to bring at least one set of hats and mittens. Karen and I usually have at least a dozen as demand exceeds supply. Gloves are fine and larger teenager sizes are needed as much as those for younger children. Nokomis members have been generous in the past in supplying hats and mittens for this worthwhile cause. Each year the hats and mittens committee chooses a worthwhile youth based organization as the recipient of the galas fundraiser. It has included a group for dental health, an organization that brings fine music into the schools, a canoe and boat builder, and a cookie cart which gave kids somewhere to go after school while learning various skills and staying off the streets. It’s a worthwhile cause.

Please consider bringing a set of hats and mittens to the Holiday Party as you are able.

Thanks, Mark and Karen

Job Corp – Help Emma Move to the New House!

Emma and Joey have a Brand New House and they need many hands to make light work.  Meet at 2501 28th Avenue, St. Anthony (same as the Beer Tasting at St. Patrick's day) at 8AM to start moving.  Emma will have all the stuff boxed and ready to move, and it should be done in just a single trip.

The end point isn't far away, in New Brighton.

Emma's contribution will scale up with the some folks.  Come along and have fun moving!
