2022 Anniversary Picnic and Membership Meeting – June 11th in Bloomington

The 37th Anniversary Picnic takes place this Saturday the 11th at Noon.   We've booked the West Bush Lake Park Shelter 1, the two-roofed shelter in the woods in West Bush Lake Park, Bloomington.

We have the shelter from 11AM to 4PM, along with access to grills and the bathrooms.   As of now the weather forecast is quite good, no difficulties.

Phill has electronics good to go for background music and Zoom-ing the meeting.  We have a large bag of charcoal for grills for you to cook whatever grillable or roastable goodies you bring.  Halloween style treats (packaged) are ok to bring and share, but not yet homemade treats out of an abundance of caution. Drinking is ok if we avoid D&D (drunk and OK disorderly).  Sorry, No bouncy Galileo or Inflatable Trelane's Castle.

Speaking of Zoom, we'll have the meeting up and running a little ahead of time and keep it up until there's nobody on.  If you're at the meeting in person, stop by the Zoom PC to say hi to those who can't make it this time.

See you all there!

Apollo 11 Moon Party is Set – See you on the 20th

Thanks for Signing up to Celebrate One of Humanity’s Greatest Endeavors

Fifty years ago, humankind took a giant leap, setting foot on an extraterrestrial body for the first time. Join us in celebrating the anniversary of that achievement at the Moon Party, hosted by Phill Goldman & Lynne Tauer at their home in the northern suburbs. The proceeds of this club fund-raiser, in place of this year’s Garden Party, benefit the club’s general fund.

The anniversary, July 20th, falls on a Saturday this year.  We'll start at 6:00PM and go until "whenever."

Weather permitting, we will have The Tauer Family’s killer telescope and a spotting scope set up in the back yard for viewing the moon and heavens beyond. On the big screen in the house we will show “The Right Stuff,” “From The Earth To The Moon,” and/or other productions about the space program’s ambitious undertakings to break barriers to the Apollo 11 moon landing. There may be more – we’re working on it. You will have to come and find out.

We will provide the core meal (picnic fare) that may include moon-themed novelties. You are invited to bring your favorite side dish for potluck-style sharing, but that is completely optional. (Moon-themed creations get brownie points!)

Please bring a lawn chair and, because it’s a summer evening in Minnesota, don't forget your preferred bug spray.

Registration was open through the end of Saturday, July 13. and is now closed.  For other questions? Contact Lynne at

See you at the Party!

General Membership Meeting and Campout at Evers

This year’s anniversary picnic (and camp out) will be held at Loren and Carol Evers’ property. We own approximately 11 acres about 10 miles north of Stillwater (about 10 miles northeast of the old Madline farm). So there is plenty of room for all the fun-filled activities people would like to participate in.

For those that would like to camp out, you can show up any time after 5PM on Friday. If you come any earlier than that, chances are we won’t be home. There is plenty of open space for tents and/or camper’s so bring which ever you would like to sleep in. For those people that bring campers and would like power, please let us know in advance so we can plan for that need. If you do come on Friday please bring something to grill and something to share. Please pray for NO rain, otherwise we’ll all be living in the garage.

If you want to stay the night with the Evers, they are renting their very comfortable upstairs room for $50.  If you are interested in this fundraiser and warm bed, contact Carol and Loren directly.

The anniversary picnic will again be a potluck. So please bring something to grill and something to share. It will also be a BYOB event. We don’t have an extra refrigerator, but we’ll have cooler(s) available with plenty of ice. If anyone has a large cooler they can loan to the cause, please bring that along as well. We’ll be providing plates, napkins, cups, and utensils (of the paper and plastic variety).

Juana's family has gifted us with her Star Trek collection and costumes.  There will be a silent auction during the meeting, see the accompanying article.

Also, feel free to bring along your toys as long as you don’t mind them getting lost in the weeds or the lake.

For those of you who want to know where you will be headed, our address is: 11357 142nd St. N, Stillwater, MN 55082. We are exactly 8.5 miles north off 36 off of Manning Ave/Trail.

Anniversary Picnic is on May 30th

The countdown begins - this is your two meeting month.  Better yet, it's the one meeting (May 9) and Anniversary Picnic (May 30).  Jim and Pam have graciously opened up their home and garage in Savage for the meeting and a picnic right after.

It's a kind of pot luck, so here is your shopping list:

  • You bring the meat, we'll supply the heat.
  • Bring bring a little something to  share, we'll supply all the paperware
  • Drink your favorite beverage, and we'll find a rhyme for beverage.

Let's try an experiment.   Log in and enter a comment for this post with what you're planning to bring so we can see what we have and what we need.
