National Lutheran Choir All Saints’ Concerts

Nokomis Friends,

Some of you may be familiar with this, to some it may be new. It also may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But, I do want to share this with those for whom it may be meaningful.

The National Lutheran Choir will be presenting our All Saints Concerts on November 1 and 6. This year’s theme is Blessed Are They. It is a program designed as a source for healing, comfort and hope for those that have experienced loss. The Nokomis has certainly experienced losses during the past year.

There is a reading of names. Participants and audiences are all invited to share names of loved ones. This year I will put Juana and Lucia on the list of names to be read in memory of their passing.

Performances are:

Sunday November 1 at 4:00 at St. Andrews in Mahtomedi.

Friday November 6 at 7:30 at  St. Bartholomew in Wayzata.

If you would like to attend, please email me with the performance and number of tickets needed (gratis) so I can have them available at will call.

You can contact me at .

Thanks,

Mark

ZooBoo Time!

Como Zoo's Zoo Boo is FINALLY HERE!

Celebrate Halloween without the Fright

All proceeds support the plants and animals of the Como Zoo and Conservatory.  The Nokomis has been helping out with this event since 1994 (this is our 21st event).  We really want to help keep one of America's last free-admission zoos free.

Como Zoo will be transformed for Zoo Boo October 17th, 18th; and October 24th – 25th. Gates Open: 4:30-7:30 p.m. We're just four nights this year, so let's make them count.

Volunteering

Como Friends are starting to gear up for our annual Como Friends ZooBoo at Como Zoo event and hope that you can join us again!  You can register to volunteer at the link below so the Zoo knows you're coming.  Drop Phill a line as well so we can let you know about last minute changes.  ZooBoo volunteer application link:  https://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/ap?AP=1906767573

Prep

On the morning of the first event night, Saturday October 17th, we'll be in full-on work to complete setups before the event.  We start at 8AM and hopefully we'll be done before the gates open.

Event

Our folks will be heading up the new Halloween station, just inside the front gate.  We need to get there early (3PM), but we get done first.    Be sure to sign in up on the second floor of the Big Zoo Building - there are goodies for you there, and perhaps a surprise coupon.

Dinner

Be sure to check with our folks at the first station, we'll get details there about the night's repast!  Hope to see you all there, all the time!

Bowling Party

Bowling Ball of DoomDig out your bowling balls and shoes.  Polish up those throws!  Get ready to bowl your fingers numb!!

Following our September 2015 General Membership meeting we will again have free/open bowling at St. Francis School(see the map for the general meeting location--we'll stay there).  Because we have a busy September meeting we will start promptly at noon so that the bowling can start at 2 pm.  We have the facility until 5 pm--enough time to wear everyone out. Those of us that don't fling the weighted spheres cheer from the sidelines as well as play games.

Remember this is a POTLUCK--bring your specialty to share! We invite our friends from local fandom to this meeting so be spiffy!! This is also a good meeting to bring folks that are interested in our club since we will be reviewing our activities for the next year!

Free balls, free shoes, free bowling--what's not to love!

Movie Night is Here!!!

It's time for our magical, mystery, movie night under the stars!

The event will take place on August 29th at the Mermaid Star Drive-In Theater (in Mary and Jack's backyard).  By now you've already signed up and let Mary know you're coming, so she has enough goodies

The lovely evening features entertainment from your favorite Science Fiction franchise, a wonderful buffet dinner and stunning atmosphere provided by Planet Earth. No other details will be provided, but rest assured that it will be fun and yummy. The cost was $12, payable to Dawn. All you have to bring is a chair and a beverage.

The event will take place rain or shine. This Year looks like definite Moon-shine!

No Road Rally this month…

I'm sorry to say this, but there won't be a Road Rally after this month's membership meeting. A very large project at work has eaten up just about all of my free time, so I haven't been able to get out and run the course. I will reschedule this for the fall, when I'm more likely to have some free time -- assuming my employers don't find some other huge project to dump on me...

Again, I'm so, so sorry. My apologies to all who were looking forward to the Road Rally; I place myself at your mercy.

-- Scott

Anniversary Picnic is on May 30th

The countdown begins - this is your two meeting month.  Better yet, it's the one meeting (May 9) and Anniversary Picnic (May 30).  Jim and Pam have graciously opened up their home and garage in Savage for the meeting and a picnic right after.

It's a kind of pot luck, so here is your shopping list:

  • You bring the meat, we'll supply the heat.
  • Bring bring a little something to  share, we'll supply all the paperware
  • Drink your favorite beverage, and we'll find a rhyme for beverage.

Let's try an experiment.   Log in and enter a comment for this post with what you're planning to bring so we can see what we have and what we need.

June Anniversary Picnic and Meeting now in May by Popular Demand

"Since before your sun burned hot in space, I have awaited a June meeting."
— The Guardian of Forever (sort of)

June is busy beyond belief with graduations and other such good events.  To make room for a great many of us, we've once again moved the Anniversary Picnic and the ever-so-brief business meeting to May 30th.     Be sure to mark your calendar!
