Chuckwagon and Auction Ticket Info SNOW Delay changes

DINNER TICKETS:

We were going to collect your dinner/auction ticket sale payments and raffle collections during the March 9 general membership meeting!  But weather!! It happened!! All over the place!!!!

So we now need you to email me with how many tickets you sold for the dinner (those really coming to eat, not just making a donation by paying $12, though we love those folks too!) by this Wednesday, March 13. You will need to pay me at the auction for those tickets. I need you to send the information to me at just as soon as you can.  I do not assume you will sell all the tickets you picked up--so contact me.

This also gives you a bit more time to sell more tickets, or decide to come and still give us just enough time to turn our counts in to the restaurant and to purchase/make additional items.

The deadline to give me your final count is Wednesday, March 13 (gives you a little more time to talk your friends and victims into coming!).

RAFFLE TICKETS:

You may still sell raffle tickets until the day of the dinner and give me your ticket stubs and payments then (March 31/Sunday).

For those that were not in on the dinner and auction at the beginning we used to make all the menu items for the dinner ourselves.  With the change of location and menu we now manage side dishes and some of the beverages.  However, we are all club members and volunteers, plus we work too, so we need time to put together 'our' part of the meal.  (I've had people ask about the hard deadlines for meal counts recently--this is to give us time around our lives to manage the event, as well as to meet the restaurant deadlines).

AUCTION ITEMS:

Again because of weather I was not able to collect any auction items at the meeting that never lived! You may still put together your baskets, kits and fun things and bring them to the event with you. BUT, please send me an email so I can print a bid sheet for your donation.

For donations for Door Prizes, donor name is sufficient.

For donations for Cash'n'Carry items, donor name, item name/any special info, and price.

For donations for Auction, donor name, item name/special info/description and estimated cost. Then your minimum bid and quick sale price if you wish to have one.  Please note ADULT ONLY items as such (when auction items include alcohol or firearms or other adult only items).

Any questions? Any prize info? Any ticket sales/counts?    email or text/voice mail to 763-222-8234.  Please be sure to give your name!

Donations for the Silent Auction, at the Chuckwagon Dinner, March 31, 2019

Now that you have collected all those cool items that we need to auction, what do you do next?

You can wrap or carefully package the item and set it aside to bring to the auction itself (remember to buy your dinner ticket by the March general membership meeting).  If you are not able to come to the dinner but still have a super cool something to add to the inventory you can bring it to the March USS Nokomis meeting on March 9, 2019.  If you can't get to our meeting you can make arrangements with me to deliver it to my house  before Saturday, March 30.

No matter when or how the item gets to the auction site, I need specific information to print the bidding sheets, sale tags and prize tags. Please mail the following info to me at Roxanne Hill, 2301 Pearson Parkway, Brooklyn Park, MN. 55444,  or email it to me at , or text me at 763-222-8234 (because of my weird work schedule my phone is almost never answered but a text with your name on it is GREAT), or write it down and give it to me at MARScon, at dinner, or take me out for beer and give it to me then (really I'm not picky so long as I can read the writing!)

Thank you in advance for both your auction donations and your help getting this put together. Trust me, no one wants to read my personal handwriting/printing on 50 bid slips.

The following info is needed before March 28 (I have to type and print everything before the dinner!):

  1. Item's name and description
  2. Item's donator
  3. Item's purpose-1,2, and 3 should always be listed, 4 and 5 are 'as needed' info
    1. auction item,
      1. provide the general value of item
      2. suggested minimum bid (unless forbidden we may drop it towards end of auction)
      3. quick sale price (not all items require them, but we will occasionally assign one unless forbidden)
      4. note any special handling required i.e. refrigeration, scheduling or details to be provided
      5. please note if this requires a legal adult only purchaser for any:
        1. alcohol included in item
        2. firearms involved in activity for the item
    2. cash'n'carry (or sale item)
      1. provide general value of item
      2. any necessary directions for handling
      3. adult only purchaser notices as noted above
    3. door prize
      1. provide general value of item
      2. any necessary directions for handling.

2019 January Dinner Dance

Time to put the Dance into your calendar!

I know you've all been waiting to get the info for the USS Nokomis' formal dinner dance on Saturday, January 19.  We will once again be at the Dan Patch American Legion, 12375 Princeton Ave., Savage, MN.  Because of the great turn outs and hard work from all our members at our annual auctions, the Nokomis will be supporting more of the costs this time.  Instead of $35, the 2019 Dance will be $25 per person.  This is a big "Thank You!" for all the effort put forth and donations received to make our fundraisers a success.

IMPORTANT:  Your deadline to pay is January 12  at 2 p.m.  This deadline is firm because of commitments and contracts with the restaurant.  You may pay on line through our website by PayPal or by check or cash to our Chief Financial Officer (and fundraising queen) Pam Kline, again no later than the end of the general membership meeting, January 12, 2019.

When you sign up please note your choice of New York Strip steak with mushrooms (steak), or Chicken (chicken) at 6 p.m., dinner service at 7 p.m., and once again our favorite DJ-Rob Stafford will start the music for our dancing pleasure at 8 p.m.

For our theme this year we've decided to take (or borrow) a page from Dr. Seuss and his story The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.

How does this tie in with us? Well, we are pretty well known for our costumes at conventions, dances, parties, get togethers and movie premiers.  Well, now you can find your favorite costume and add a charming chapeau, a top hat to your tails, a sequined band and feather for your beaded flapper dress or even a helmet for your space suit.  Top your favorite dressy outfit with a derby, cowboy hat, cloche, pill box or beanie.  This is your chance to wear your favorite hat and dress up at the same time.

This event is open, so you can invite family and friends, not just other Nokomis members.  This is one of our few age restricted events, however, so please remember 21 is the minimum age.  And, yes, the $25 ticket holds for our guests not just our members.

So now I must go and find that fez, tam, beret, fedora, bowler, cap, trilby, Panama hat, fascinator, bucket hat, turban, pith helmet, newsboy cap, ascot cap, pork pie hat, sun hat, toque, gambler hat, sombrero cordobes, Homburg, duck bill cap, kettle brim hat, driver cap, outback or Aussie hat or Kentucky Derby Photo Hat. Hmmmm?!

Or maybe a pilos, petasos, chupalla, church hat, Kofia, cappella Romano, busby, caubeen, deerstalker, selakot, berretina or Hardee hat....

A bonnet, a cowl, crown, tiara, mariachi sombrero...

September Bowling Party has Meeting attached….

Or is it the September Membership meeting has a bowling party attached!

Once again we will be meeting for our September General Membership Meeting at the St. Francis Bowling Center. It is located at the St. Francis School building at 426 S. Osceola Ave., St. Paul, MN 55102 (one block North of the intersection of Randolph and West 7th St.).

Our September meeting tends to be busy with taking annual membership payments, reviewing and approving the 2018/2019 budget and visiting after a busy summer.

After our official meeting ends (about 1:30 pm) the lanes will be open for bowling. As always the lanes are paid for by the Nokomis. This is one of our fun returns for the dedicated hard work of fundraising for the club. We have the lanes until 5:00 pm again (or until your fingers go numb..., whichever comes first).

After the bowling we will meet at a restaurant (to be determined and announced at the meeting) and complete our favorite club activities--eating and talking!

Please feel free to bring your family and to invite other fandom groups. Give us a heads up on the number of folks coming if you can to help with planning.

Don't forget to bring your shoes and ball if you have them! See you soon!

Just Kidding…

Just a heads up. In the April 14 meeting cancellation, I referenced a theme for our CONvergence 2018 hospitality suite. We are NOT doing “Spectre of the Gun.” So NO gunslingers, sheriffs or Wyatt Earps. This was just a way to get people thinking about our commitment to a creative and busy event. So be ready when the actual theme is announced! We’ll need everyone’s eyes, hands and hearts ready to get involved.

2017 Bowling Party Wrap Up

Thanks for joining us for the 513th bowling party...at least I think we've had that many!  Just to let those that couldn't attend know what happened:

Jack Langhoff scored big and Phill Goldman did too.  And sweet Jenna Cruz was kind enough to laugh with our need to practice award this year!

18 people bowled at least 2 games each, everyone seemed to have a great time trying to out score themselves and everyone else as well!

It also seemed to be voted that we have another bowling party in 2018.  Therefore look for the next one after our 2018 Sept. general membership meeting!    Join a league and start practicing so you can touch the USS Nokomis bowling trophy and have your picture taken! Peanut gallery be ready to cheer!

Bowling Party in October

Bowling Ball of DoomDig out your bowling balls and shoes.  Polish up those throws!  Get ready to bowl your fingers numb!!

Following our October 2016 General Membership meeting we will again have free/open bowling at St. Francis School (see the map for the general meeting location--we'll stay there).  Because we have a busy meeting we will start promptly at noon so that the bowling can start at 2 pm.  We have the facility until 5 pm--enough time to wear everyone out. Those of us that don't fling the weighted spheres cheer from the sidelines as well as play games.

Remember! We invite our friends from local fandom to this meeting so be spiffy!!  We will be pick out a restaurant to compare scores afterwards.

There's a signup sheet for the whole event, give it a look-see.

Free balls, $1.00 shoes, free bowling--what's not to love!

2015 Bowling Party

We're done bowling for another year.  I hope you all had fun.  I wasn't able to see everyone because of work, but I didn't get lost on my way to St. Francis this time so I had time to visit with many of you!!

My able assistant, Shannon Hill, was kind enough to track scores for us. Many took part in flinging spheres, all had fun, but a couple reached the top!!  Phill Goldman was first this year with 189, Jack Langhoff was second with 134.  Now everyone knows what to shoot for next year.

Yes, we are planning another bowling party/general meeting/potluck in 2016.  Go ahead, get together, practice.  Maybe you will win the Dairy Queen gift card next year!
