Star Trek Movie Night

Save the date for the movie night on November 12th. You may see movies and you may see television and you may see other things, but we're calling it a movie night no matter what! Our usual format (backyard drive-in) is altered somewhat this year, as is our location. Lynne and Phill have graciously offered their space due to the date change, as November is not as good for outdoor evenings as August is!

The cost of the evening is still $12, and for this you will get your dinner and entertainment. Bring beverages of your choice to enjoy/share. Since we're not on the grass, a chair of your own is not required. There's a fireplace to keep us toasty warm in the house, and there might be snack as well.

The festivities will start at 5pm and information will follow on the website and next month's newsletter.  Phill and Lynne will furnish maps and places to hang out between the meeting and the night's start.

Advanced registration is required, we've set up a signup sheet page to make it easy.  We need to know how many folks are coming to plan food volume.   We are currently accepting payment at the meetings or through the signup sheet page. Please let us know if you have dietary restrictions. Advance registration is required for food volume purposes.

Trek 50 Party Was Wonderful!

We had a great time celebrating the 50th anniversary of our favorite show on September 10th at the Rosetown American Legion. We partied with a hundred people in an evening full of fun.

The room was decked out in command gold, engineering red and sciences blue, with special Star Trek table runners and Trek 50 centerpieces. Our treasured props, including the Transporter, Bridge Console, hand-held specials items and Captain's Chair, were big hits with our guests as they took many pictures. On one wall we were treated to Lynne's fantastic slide show, highlighting the USS Nokomis phenomenon and its 32-year history.

Our appetizer and dessert buffet featured a Starfleet watermelon, veggies, meat and cheese trays, chicken wings, meatballs, cocktail wienies, hot artichoke dip, cheesecake and pistachio  parfaits, and more. Several members brought their own signature desserts, including bars, cookies and cakes.

We had a great costume contest with many entrants, led by Dreamstitcher Rae. Sarek and Amanda, Captain Sisko and T'Pau won fabulous prizes. Our Trek 50 card game earned two others some Trek goodies. We were very fortunate to score prizes that equaled over $500 in value! After the fun and games, we rocked out to our favorite DJ from NewTown DJ, Rob. Starfleet officers and aliens line dancing together warmed all of our hearts!

Thanks to Jane, Pam, Roxanne, who ran the primary committee. This was a huge, months-long effort that included food preparation, hauling of props, room setup, publicity and much more. Thanks to every single person that helped - you know who you are! One of the really special things about this group is the wide range of gifts we have and how they create synergy. Some can organize or do publicity or graphics, some can cook or sew. Some can create magic out of wood or wire or wit.

Some have unexpected talents that pop up just when we need them most. Once again, you all worked together to go where no club has gone before. Congratulations on a first-class event that truly did homage to the 50th anniversary.

Dues are Due for 2016-2017 Membership Year

Update:  if you haven't paid your 2016 dues, they are past due!  Be sure to pay either via PayPal on the website, by check via mail, and in person at the October 8th meeting!

Renew!  RENEW!!

Remember that your dues are due (no pun intended) in September, regardless of your anniversary month.  We realigned the dues year to match our activity calendar planning starting in 2015.

If you are going to miss the September meeting (and we hope you aren't, because it's a biggie and we'll present the activity calendar), don't despair. There are a few ways you can get your dues to Pam.

  • At the September meeting.  Let's be nice to Pam and put cash or checks in an envelope with your name and Dues on it.  Keeps everything neat.
  • If you already know you're crossing paths with a Board member, get it to them.  They all talk to each other every so often.  They like the envelope option too.
  • You can use the online option this year.  Use the Join Us web page and act like it's your first time.  Phill will get it all sorted in the background.
  • You can get your dues to Pam by mail if necessary. Let her know your plans if you need to, as she'll be putting together a reminder notification to those who miss September's deadline.

Please remember that you must pay by the drop-dead time - BEFORE the October meeting - to be included in the October celebration. Plus, you won't get newsletters any more, and then how will you know what's going on?

If you have questions, the Governing Board is here to help.

Captain’s Log September 2016

Greetings, happy crew! It's a big month in history, for us and the world! It's so funny to think, after 32 years together, that without that event most of us would not even know each other. Let's celebrate together in a big way on the 10th. Bring your friends and family, bring yourself, and bring plans to have a great time. The committee is working hard to make it a wonderful time. Please, please RSVP and get your tickets NOW so we know how to plan for food! Don't forget your costume, too. We have a great contest planned.

It's the start of a new year and that means two important things: First, your dues are due. That goes for everyone, regardless of the month you joined. We'll have a fun celebration at the November meeting for all members. Second, it means that we have a fresh new calendar planned. The Governing Board has formulated a plan for the next 18 months and we'll present it to everyone at the September meeting (don't forget that it's on the 17th). If you have additional ideas about fun things to do, bring them to a board member or to that meeting. We'll have tons of fun in the next year, as always.

See you around the galaxy! LLAP

Captain’s Log – Summer 2016

Greetings, crew!

I hope everybody made it through the massive storms and power outages without losing too much food or foliage. We were out for a few days but everything came through pretty much unscathed (other than the foliage). What a relief!

This newsletter is specially timed to get you the information you need for our summer activities. We have food packing, a garden party, the long-awaited movie premier and a lake outing within the next month or so. Details are included here. Keep checking back on the website if you need additional information. We don't have another meeting until September.

Speaking of September, don't forget that our meeting is NOT on the 2nd Saturday, but on the 3rd Saturday of the month. This is to accommodate our awesome Trek 50 party on September 10th. Plan to be there and bring as many friends as you can. It should be a great time and we want to get every fan in town to attend. Get your tickets now!

See you around the galaxy!

CONvergence was AWESOME!

This year's convention was a great time. Thanks to everyone who helped. The crew stepped up and we had enough hands to help with loading the truck, unloading the truck, setting up the rooms, working the rooms, tearing down, loading the truck, unloading the truck and loading up the cargo bay. That even sounds exhausting, doesn't it?

USS Nokomis saved a lot of lives, again!

Blood Drive Ribbon

Congratulations to all for the great blood drive on July 2nd. Thanks to Jane's many hours of recruiting, we went in to the convention with a virtually full schedule. Con-goers stopped in to the rooms all weekend asking for appointments, which gave us a big backup list.

The result? Thanks to Roxanne and Jane and their wrangling of donors and appointments, and thanks to the fabulous crew on the bloodmobile, we collected 45 units of live-saving blood! Our goal was 30 units - can you believe it!!? All donors received the coolest ribbon at the con - Blood Donor - and they also got a holiday-weekend gift of a lunch cooler from the American Red Cross. Since each unit can touch up to 3 lives, that's up to 135 hospital patients touched by us - the USS Nokomis!

Thanks to Jane, Roxanne and all who donated blood at our 28th blood drive. Way to go!
