Dinner and Lyric Arts Theater This Saturday

On This Saturday, January 16th we are going out for a nice evening of dinner and a play. The play is The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee, a Tony Award winning play that is supposed to be a hoot. Guests under the age of 14 are not allowed, so no little kids (isn't that intriguing?)! You may go online at www.lyricarts.org for more information. Tickets may be purchased by phone at 763-422-1838, and you'll want to reserve early in case they sell out the evening performance. Specify that you're with the USS Nokomis so they'll seat you by the group.

Dinner will be at Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano in The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes. Our reservation is for 3:30 pm. Check it out at www.biaggis.com.

If we're done dinner and still have time to kill, Phill and Lynne have invited us to their home for a warm place to stay.  Contact Phill for directions if you don't already know where they are.  Expect that the after dinner crowd won't arrive there until 5:30 or so.

The show starts at 7:30 PM in the Anoka Downtown area.

Let Mary know if you're coming, we want to make the reservations right!

History of Hallmark’s Star Trek Keepsake Ornaments

After 50 years, the distinctive image of the USS Enterprise has come to serve not only as home for hundreds of explorers of the future but also as an iconic symbol of the Star Trek universe and all that represents to its fans. For more than half that time, sculptor Lynn Norton has devoted uncounted hours to interpreting incarnations of the beloved starship, creating Keepsake Ornaments for Hallmark that bring fans’ favorite memories and fantastic moments to Christmas trees each year (and admittedly to collectible displays all year long for many people).

National Lutheran Choir All Saints’ Concerts

Nokomis Friends,

Some of you may be familiar with this, to some it may be new. It also may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But, I do want to share this with those for whom it may be meaningful.

The National Lutheran Choir will be presenting our All Saints Concerts on November 1 and 6. This year’s theme is Blessed Are They. It is a program designed as a source for healing, comfort and hope for those that have experienced loss. The Nokomis has certainly experienced losses during the past year.

There is a reading of names. Participants and audiences are all invited to share names of loved ones. This year I will put Juana and Lucia on the list of names to be read in memory of their passing.

Performances are:

Sunday November 1 at 4:00 at St. Andrews in Mahtomedi.

Friday November 6 at 7:30 at  St. Bartholomew in Wayzata.

If you would like to attend, please email me with the performance and number of tickets needed (gratis) so I can have them available at will call.

You can contact me at .

Thanks,

Mark

Hats and Mittens

Rebecca Sundquist Jorgenson is a friend and member of the National Lutheran
Choir Board. One of her passions is Hats and Mittens charity.

It started one day when she noticed kids at the bus stop without hats or
mittens. This eventually developed into a non profit fund raising
organization for providing those in need of "hats and mittens". Each year
at their gala, they sponsor an organization that helps disadvantaged, needy
youth, or any organization in the twin cities area that helps tomorrow's
generation realize their potential. The common thread is always supplying
hats and mittens to those in need. Believe it or not, even Edina has this
need. The need exceeds the supply.

Karen and I support this organization. You can help by bringing a hat and
mitten set (preferred to gloves) to any of the next two Nokomis meetings.

If you know of someone needing hats or mittens, they do take orders
952-221-3400 or www.hatsandmittens.org

Movie Night is Here!!!

It's time for our magical, mystery, movie night under the stars!

The event will take place on August 29th at the Mermaid Star Drive-In Theater (in Mary and Jack's backyard).  By now you've already signed up and let Mary know you're coming, so she has enough goodies

The lovely evening features entertainment from your favorite Science Fiction franchise, a wonderful buffet dinner and stunning atmosphere provided by Planet Earth. No other details will be provided, but rest assured that it will be fun and yummy. The cost was $12, payable to Dawn. All you have to bring is a chair and a beverage.

The event will take place rain or shine. This Year looks like definite Moon-shine!

All-Ship’s Picnic, July 19th at Noon

Shelter 1The Nokomis is hosting the 2015 All-Ship's Picnic at West Bush Lake Park Shelter #1.   We'll get started at Noon on this wonderful Sunday afternoon, rain or shine.  It's a chance to reconnect with all our friends in the Star Trek fan community without a lot of work.

What we know: It's a potluck event,  we'll bring the heat, you bring the meat and whatever you want to share.  Contact Dawn for details or to make suggestions.

What we're planning:  The final details are just getting rolling, but it won't have a lot of highly planned or scheduled events.  Check the Nokomis' website's news page for updates, and the event links  for time and location.

West Bush Lake shelter is located at 9401 West Bush Lake Road, Bloomington MN 55438

Anniversary Picnic is on May 30th

The countdown begins - this is your two meeting month.  Better yet, it's the one meeting (May 9) and Anniversary Picnic (May 30).  Jim and Pam have graciously opened up their home and garage in Savage for the meeting and a picnic right after.

It's a kind of pot luck, so here is your shopping list:

  • You bring the meat, we'll supply the heat.
  • Bring bring a little something to  share, we'll supply all the paperware
  • Drink your favorite beverage, and we'll find a rhyme for beverage.

Let's try an experiment.   Log in and enter a comment for this post with what you're planning to bring so we can see what we have and what we need.
